Musings on Chard

As part of the Green Mary Workbook, the Marketing and Comms department have written a short blog about their allotment plot and new found recipes for Chard!

Last year was quite a successful year for Karen and me. Our plot 10 vegetable patch in the allotment yielded loads of delicious tomatoes, radishes, herbs and chard, LOTS OF CHARD.

And while we are both fans of the green and red leaves, we were quickly running out of ideas on what to do with them or people to give them away to.

So we started doing some research on chard recipes, and thought we’d share them with you, in case you also (hopefully) have a successful chard harvest this year.

Here are some ideas:

Bulgur, Spinach and Tomato Casserole: (You can either fully replace the spinach with chard, or mix the two)  https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1014580-bulgur-spinach-and-tomato-casserole

Persian Frittata with Fresh Herbs: (Using hopefully other fresh herbs from your garden, you can easily replace the lettuce here with chard. I have done it, and it works. Though don’t skip parsley, dill and fenugreek!) https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1018062-fresh-herb-kuku

Goat Cheese and Swiss Chard Pasta Casserole: http://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-goat-cheese-and-swiss-c-1-140310
