BIKE WEEK!

Bike week is our annual event celebrating all things cycling and sustainable transport, we have lots of events coming up across QMUL for you to get involved in. We have a number of events coming up and will also be giving out lots of freebies including puncture repair kits, bike seat covers, mud guards and more!   • FREE cycle maintenance from Bikeworks

Get the chance to get your bike serviced by an experienced bike mechanic from Bikeworks. We have bookable sessions at Charterhouse and Whitechapel and a first come, first served system at Mile End. Only 1 session is permitted per person and please remember to enter your email under ‘your name’. The service includes basic checks but please note if your bike is not safe to ride, the mechanic will not be able to look at your bike.

  • Refurbished bike sale from the Refurbished Bicycle Specialists

The Refurbished Bicycle Specialists are coming to Charterhouse Square and Mile End for Bike Week. As part of Recycle your Cycle, the team collect abandoned bicycles from across the country and take them prisons all over the UK to train the prisoners up to refurbish the bikes. The bikes are then sold in hospices across the UK and at university and warehouse sales to fund the programme. Bikes start from around £50 and there will be a wide range of bikes to choose from on the day!

  • Bike amnesty from the Refurbished Bicycle Specialists

Alongside their bike sale, The Refurbished Bicycle Specialists will be collecting any bikes that you want to get rid of which they will take back and use in their refurbishment scheme with prisoners. Please don’t leave your bike locked up taking up the limited parking space we do have – if you want to get rid of your bike hand it in to our bike amnesty instead!

  • Bike security marking from the MET police

The MET police will also be back on site at Mile End and Charterhouse Square security marking bikes for free, adding them to the bike register. Coming along and marking your bike with the police will save you around £15.

  • The Bespoke study

The team behind the Bespoke Study will be at some of our events talking about how they are trying to make cycling in London safer by collecting near miss and collision data from incidents that happen across London in collaboration with BikeMaps.

  • Smoothie bike

As always, we’ll have the smoothie bike out for you to come and experience – pedal for a smoothie! We’ll have our Green Mary branded smoothie bike Wheelium out in Mile End and plenty of smoothies for everyone to enjoy.

Don’t forget…

You can get FREE cycle training from your local council. If you’re based in Charterhouse Square take a look at how to book onto cycle training through Islington council and if you’re at Mile End or Whitechapel, take a look at Tower Hamlets council training info here.
