Careers & Enterprise’s Green Mary Initiatives 2016-17
This is the 4th consecutive year that Careers & Enterprise are participating in the Green Mary initiative and we have some exciting items on the agenda. This year we wanted to continue to develop and improve our practices around all things ‘green’ as well as use the Green Mary initiative as a platform to bring our very busy team together. Below is a snapshot of some of the exciting things we’ve been up to and plan to do this year:
- Give back to the community. The braver members of the team did carolling at Cooper’s Court Nursing Home at Christmas. Some members of the team regularly visit Cooper’s Court at their lunch breaks as befrienders.
- Contribute to biodiversity: Our in-house gardener extraordinaire re-potted all the plants in our offices and developed a plant care rota to ensure they stay alive and well. The office already feels like a brighter place to be with all our lovely healthy greenery! We’re also due to re-start our team lunchtime allotment gardening sessions in March.
- Improve our collective wellbeing: Wellbeing is a big theme this year. We’re a busy team and want to get better at getting away from our desks, getting healthy as well as catching up with one another. Our office Wellbeing Campaign has been a big hit so far and has included the introduction of walking meetings, a cycle/walk to work campaign for Green Mary Week, and team gym and rock climbing sessions at lunch and after work.
- Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Reducing waste is another big area that we’re focusing on this year as we all feel that little changes can make a real difference. Some of our work has included: an office Christmas Secret Santa where all gifts had to be recycled or repurposed; a clothes swap tea party during Fairtrade Fortnight where any items not taken went to the British Heart Foundation Donation Bank; we’ve developed a book swap corner in the office to share our good reads so that we don’t have to keep buying books; we’ve purchased new reusable cutlery and dishes for the office so that we can stop using disposable items; we’ve also started repurposing and recycling all of the leftover promotional items from our Careers Fair (because who doesn’t need a Goldman Sachs branded pen??).
