Bike Week is over, now what?

First and foremost, thank you to those of you who came down to see us during Bike Week last week! It was a massively successful week and we were lucky enough to have glorious sunshine throughout!

The mechanics were kept busy and maintained over 70 bikes over the week, Recycle Your Cycle sold over 20 bikes, over 10 people received blind spot awareness training from the MET police and over 100 pedal-powered smoothies were consumed!

So, just because bike week is over, doesn’t mean you should forget about bikes until next year. There are plenty of bike-related events and information which you can benefit from all year round.

Don’t forget you can get FREE cycle training all year

We organised a group and 1:1 cycle training sessions as part of Bike Week 2016, but don’t forget you can book training completely free of charge at any time to suit you through Tower Hamlets (Mile End/Whitechapel) and Islington council (Charterhouse Square).

There are different training options and they can provide a bike and helmet for you if you’re a total beginner so there really is no excuse! If you want to find out more email and we can give you more info over email and let you know exactly how to book the sessions.

There are also 2 training sessions coming up as part of the Graduate Festival:

-Monday 13th June 2016, 12pm-2pm @ Mile End

-Wednesday 15th June 2016, 12pm-2pm @ Whitechapel

Check Twitter for more information about these training sessions and how to sign up – we’ll be promoting these when we have more info.

Keep an eye out for free bike maintenance all year round

As the bike maintenance sessions are so popular, we’re working towards offering them more regularly for students and staff. Keep an eye out on our social media pages for more information on these. In the meantime, we have bike mechanics lined up for 15th June, 10am-2pm in Library Square, Mile End as part of the Graduation Festival. Put it in the diary and make sure you don’t miss out!

Bikeworks is just around the corner!

Bikeworks, who came along to Bike Week to sell a range of locks, are just around the corner from QMUL. Based on Cambridge Heath Road by Bethnal Green train station, it’s within easy walking distance from both our Mile End and Whitechapel campuses.

They’ve got a great range of locks and bikes as well as a great team of experienced mechanics, so pop by and have a chat if you’re in need of a bike guru and we haven’t got a session lined up!

Most importantly, don’t forget that with your student/staff card you can get 10% off purchases!

Recycle Your Cycle will be back!

Due to the success of their bike sale, Recycle Your Cycle will be back on campus selling more refurbished bikes later on in the year. Keep an eye out for more information on this soon and you could be as happy as this guy!

So, I hope this will get you through your post Bike Week blues! Don’t forget to tag us @QMULsustain in any of your tweets and @QMUL_Sustainability on Instagram!
